7th Floor Records Project | Loose Records and Index

The 7th Floor Records Project is a special project of the Tuscaloosa Genealogical Society Inc. with a mission to preserve, digitize, and index the 19th century court records previously stored on the 7th floor of the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse. Different “sets” of records were scanned according to how and when the records were obtained.

These records are separate from the collection of Circuit Court loose records prepared by volunteers and microfilmed by FamilySearch titled 2008 Loose Records Microfilm Index. Records were cleaned and organized into the appropriate case files before they could be scanned and indexed. Hundreds of thousands of individual documents had to be read and then assigned to a case file. Each case file was then indexed and scanned as one complete Portable Document Format (PDF) file. The individual case files range in size from single page files to over 300 pages files. Note there are breaks in the PDF numbering. There are 2494 pdfs in the index attached to 31,686 entries. Each name in the index will have reference to its record set, date and pdf number. Please reach out to Jan Hutchison with any questions.

More information is included in the Case Type and some have relationships mentioned within the case. Record sets are as follows:
